We put nature at the heart of decision-making by developing science-based solutions.
We are a highly specialised environmental consulting company established within the Department of Land, Environment, Agriculture and Forestry of the University of Padua.
As a university spin-off and B Corp, we work daily to improve the economic, environmental and social benefits of policies, projects and investments. We provide tailor-made consultancy to private companies, organisations and public administrations.
The history
2011
Our company was born as a spin-off of the University of Padua in the Department of Land, Environment, Agriculture and Forestry. Lucio Brotto, Diego Florian, Alessandro Leonardi, Mauro Masiero, Davide Pettenella and Laura Secco chose to call it Etifor: a name that combines the words “Etica” (ethics) and “Forestale” (forestry), crucial elements of our identity.
2012 – 2017
In the following years, we deepened the connections between the academic world – where we come from – and the market, always guided by our passion for nature.
The PhDs of Alessandro, Lucio, Mauro and Diego – led by professors Laura and Davide – allowed us to consolidate our scientific skills and to weave a network of high-profile international relationships.
2018
After storm Vaia, which damaged 42,800 hectares of forest at the end of 2018, we felt the need to broaden our commitment. We wanted to offer support to forest managers in difficulty and, at the same time, try to give back to the North-East and the whole country the green lung it had lost.
So we launched WOWnature: the initiative that allows citizens, organisations and companies to grow new forests and protect existing ones in full compliance with the strictest standards of responsible forest management. A model that we had already experimented with Bosco Limite: Etifor’s first multifunctional forest was born thanks to the involvement of residents who decided to adopt and plant trees.
2021
Over the years, we have expanded our services and skills with the intention of generating more positive impacts on the world and people. As a result, we decided to organise ourselves into six teams specialised in as many areas of expertise to best meet the needs of our partners, from public authorities to private companies: governance for nature, tourism, nature positive, forest restoration and management, WOWnature and supply chains.
2022
We became a benefit company, committing – right from our corporate purpose – to working responsibly and transparently towards people, communities, territories and the environment.
In the same year, we also obtained the international B Corp certification, which rewards companies that demonstrate social and environmental impacts that contribute to an inclusive, equitable and regenerative global economy.
2023
We have always believed that the respect and well-being of people are essential elements of a good company. This is why Etifor has adopted a participatory company organisation that allows everyone to feel an active part. It is precisely from a participatory process that the need was born to put our corporate culture in a manifesto: a compass that shows us where we want to go daily, holding firm to our values.
During the European Business & Nature Summit, co-organised by Etifor, the Italian Business @ Biodiversity Working Group, renamed Business for Biodiversity Italy in 2024, is presented: the Italian network of companies and financial institutions committed to a Nature Positive future, in line with the Global Biodiversity Framework and the Nature Restoration Law.
2024
Etifor participates in the 16th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16) in Colombia.
Creation of Verderosa Farm, a regenerative farm that guarantees animal welfare and cares for the landscape, improving soil fertility and protecting biodiversity. This commitment has led to the creation of high-quality local agricultural products, obtained with respect for the land and animals.

Quality assurance systems

In 2022 we obtained the international B Corp certification. Find out more here.
B Corporations are companies committed to measure and consider their environmental and social performance with the same attention traditionally given to economic results. These companies believe in business as a positive force to produce value for the biosphere and society.
“Certified B Corporation” is a trademark licensed by B Lab, a private non-profit organization, to companies like ours that have successfully completed the B Impact Assessment (“BIA”) and therefore meet the requirements set by B Lab for social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. It is specified that B Lab is not a conformity assessment body as defined by Regulation (EU) No 765/2008, nor is it a national, European, or international standardization body as per Regulation (EU) No 1025/2012. The criteria of the BIA are distinct and independent from the harmonized standards resulting from ISO norms or other standardization bodies, and they are not ratified by national or European public institutions.

Since the founding of Etifor, we have been a member of the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC), a global nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests. FSC sets standards based on recognized principles of responsible forest management [stewardship, Ed.] that are supported by active practitioners in the field.

We are members of the GSTC – Global Sustainable Tourism Council, whose criteria serve as global reference standards for sustainability of operators and tourism destinations.
