Model 231
Model 231 is a document that outlines a series of corporate procedures designed to prevent the commission of offenses for which the company could be held accountable in the execution of its business activities.
The adoption of Model 231 also requires the company to appoint a Supervisory Body (ODV), responsible for verifying the effectiveness of the Model and ensuring its proper implementation.
Whistleblowing
The term whistleblowing refers to the reporting of violations, while whistleblower refers to the person who reports. Whistleblowing is a tool of Anglo-Saxon origin that allows employees and third parties within an organization—whether public or private—to report violations, crimes, or misconduct committed by others within the organization to specific individuals or bodies.
The purpose of whistleblowing is to enable organizations to address reported issues as early as possible, making risks or harmful situations known and helping to prevent and counteract possible misconduct.
A well-managed whistleblowing system not only helps identify and combat potential wrongdoing but also fosters a culture of ethics and legality within organizations. It contributes to creating an environment of transparency and a sense of participation and belonging by eliminating employees’ fears of retaliation from management or colleagues and reducing the risk of reports being ignored.
Reports may include misconduct as described in the relevant procedure that the whistleblower has become aware of within their work environment. These consist of behaviors, acts, or omissions that harm the integrity of the organization.
