Context
The fashion and luxury sector exerts significant pressure on nature throughout its supply chain. The textile and paper industries that produce packaging and accessories such as labels, boxes and shopping bags contribute to the sector’s overall impact in terms of water and land consumption and effects on biodiversity. There is, however, a growing demand for environmental reporting from brands and investors – accelerated by standards such as the CSRD and the Fashion Pact – which is pushing all companies in the supply chain to develop credible, measurable and third-party verified climate and nature positive strategies.
The project
Mosaiq Group, an Italian holding company specialising in sustainable packaging for the fashion and luxury industry and comprising five companies, is developing an integrated environmental sustainability and climate strategy with Etifor. On the climate front, the group has initiated the calculation of the Organisational Carbon Footprint for all five companies according to the ISO 14064-1:2018 standard, the offsetting of 100% of direct Scope 1 and 2 emissions through VCS Verra certified credits, and support for WOWnature reforestation projects for the future generation of carbon removals. In addition, with the aim of broadening objectives beyond the climate strategy, a materiality screening of environmental impacts along the value chain and a mapping of ecosystems in the vicinity of production sites have been developed, to provide a comprehensive picture of impacts on nature.
Our contribution
Following the MARC and LUCAS approaches, we have supported Mosaiq Group in calculating and maintaining the group’s Carbon Footprint, retiring certified carbon credits and defining a climate plan. We have also accompanied the group’s companies through a gap analysis of their climate strategies, identifying the main opportunities for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, we have identified the most relevant pressures on water, soil and biodiversity. The entire process is structured to ensure transparency and scientific rigour in line with TNFD, SBTN and CSRD, protecting the group from the risk of greenwashing.
