Context
Nido di Seta is a project by Gucci focused on enhancing the silk supply chain in Italy, with particular attention to the recovery of traditional production practices and land management. The initiative aims to integrate agricultural and manufacturing activities with the protection of local ecosystems, contributing to the generation of key ecosystem services, such as biodiversity support, regulation of natural cycles, and conservation of the rural landscape.
By its very nature, the project requires a structured approach to assess the environmental benefits generated, relating them to the territory’s baseline ecosystem values and to their evolution over time.
The project
Gucci’s Nido di Seta project, implemented in the municipalities of San Floro and Cortale, was designed to generate concrete and long-lasting environmental benefits, contributing to biodiversity conservation and the strengthening of local ecosystem services. To make these benefits understandable and comparable over time, a structured process was launched to assess environmental impacts, linking the interventions carried out to the territory’s baseline ecosystem values.
Our contribution
Etifor supported Gucci in the assessment, modelling, and reporting of the ecosystem benefits generated by the Nido di Seta project, adopting a scientific qualitative and quantitative approach based on internationally recognised methodologies. The support included:
-
defining an environmental baseline reference;
-
selecting and applying ecosystem services assessment methodologies;
-
modelling the main environmental benefits generated;
-
supporting impact communication, with a strong focus on transparency and the prevention of greenwashing.
A pathway designed to make the project’s impacts measurable, verifiable, and communicable over time, strengthening the environmental value of the initiative for both the territory and the company.
