We are an environmental consulting firm: our mission is to restore the balance between humans and nature, and we do this through the use of science, innovation and good governance. We support public and private entities to improve the environmental, social and economic impacts of policies, projects and investments on the ground. As a spin-off of the University of Padua, we work locally and internationally bringing scientific innovation into everyone’s lives.

Who are we looking for?

  • A passionate person, who cares about the restoration, conservation and active and sustainable management of forests in national and international contexts;
  • A person with a background in forestry and environmental sciences. The ideal candidate should be technically prepared and competent, and able to divide their time between field and office work, contributing to the coordination of the design and implementation of forestry interventions, as well as to the technical and documentary management of projects;
  • A person with strong interpersonal skills, able to interact with public officials, agronomists, forestry technicians, forest managers, and civil society organisations;
  • A proactive and dynamic person with excellent analytical skills who can solve problems independently;
  • A person who shares our company’s ethical and sustainability values and has a personal and professional interest in environmental issues.

Responsabilities

The person will work within the FORESTS Programme and will support the Coordinator. The selected person will have the following responsibilities: 

  • contribute to the development and management of several reforestation and forest protection projects already in place for WOWnature®, both in Italy (in particular in the Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto Regions) and abroad;
  • support Etifor’s partner forest managers in Italy and abroad in the development of innovative projects aimed at the valorisation and responsible management of forest areas;
  • support Etifor’s partner forest managers in the achievement of the responsible forest management certification according to the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) standard and in the application of the FSC Procedure on Ecosystem Services
  • draft contracts, agreements, reports and other technical-administrative documents relating to the development and management of forestry and environmental projects;
  • ensure the proper management of sponsorships collected through WOWnature in support of forestry and environmental projects;
  • contribute to the monitoring of environmental, social and economic impacts of forestry and environmental projects;
  • monitor and analyse national tenders and opportunities (RDP, LIFE, other regional or ministerial funds) for the development of forestry and environmental projects.

Other responsibilities could be added to enhance specific skills of the person.

Qualifications, experience and skills required

Education

A Master’s degree in the field environmental sciences is required, e.g: 

  • Master’s Degree in Forest and Environmental Sciences
  • Master’s Degree in Environmental Science
  • Master’s Degree in Environmental and Territorial Sciences and Technologies
  • Master’s Degree in Spatial, Urban, Landscape and Environmental Planning

Other qualifications relevant to the project topics may also be considered an asset, based on the candidate’s work experience.

Experience

Preferably, the ideal candidate should have at least one year of experience in one or more of the following positions: 

  • agronomist and/or forestry technician, either as self-employed worker or in associated firms (also as an internship);
  • technician in forest management bodies (Region or regional agencies, municipalities, national and regional parks, nature reserves, etc.);
  • researcher, collaborator or scholar in university departments dealing with forestry and environmental topics;
  • other work, research and/or volunteer experience related to the restoration, conservation and responsible management of forests.

Candidates with less experience than that required may be evaluated on the basis of their qualifications and other specific skills.

Required skills

  • Fluency in Italian and excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. Candidates with knowledge of other languages, in particular French, will be positively considered;
  • Excellent knowledge of the Office package, in particular Excel;
  • Excellent analytical skills, problem solving oriented, independence;
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills in order to interact with public officials, agricultural and forestry technicians, forest managers, and civil society organisations;
  • Basic knowledge of QGIS software.

Workplace: Padova – Piazza A. De Gasperi n. 41; possibility of flexible remote working

Length: 1-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of renewal for an indefinite period; for candidates under 30 years of age, a 3-year apprenticeship contract

Level: to be defined during the interview and subsequent meetings and based on work experience and CV

Type of contract: full-time (Contratto Collettivo Nazionale Settore Commercio)
