Context
Europe aims to become the first Carbon Neutral continent by 2050, but for MIKO Srl, this is not enough. The climate crisis demands swift and concrete action, which is why the company has chosen to stay ahead of the curve, reducing its impact and creating value for nature in all its forms. MIKO Srl is an Italian company and a leader in the production of sustainable microfibers for the automotive, fashion, and furniture industries, committed for years to researching innovative and low-impact environmental solutions.
With clear environmental goals for 2030, MIKO Srl is committed to capturing more CO₂ than it emits, investing in science-based solutions, and collaborating with local communities to strengthen and enhance forest ecosystems.
The project
Since 2011, MIKO Srl has adopted a Life Cycle Thinking approach through the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology, applying a cradle-to-gate analysis and Environmental Product Declarations (EPD®). This approach has enabled the company to precisely measure its water consumption, CO₂ emissions, and pollutant output at every stage of its product life cycle.
In 2013, MIKO Srl obtained EPD® Process certification, allowing the company to independently manage the collection and validation of environmental data and issue new EPDs®. This achievement strengthens Miko’s commitment to transparency and reducing its environmental impact.
MIKO Srl follows a structured multi-phase plan to reduce and offset its CO₂ emissions:
- Measuring and reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions related to its Gorizia production plant.
- Expanding the reporting scope to include upstream supply chain emissions, from raw material production to processing stages.
- Investing in nature-based solutions to support carbon sequestration projects and mitigate its environmental impact.

With our support, MIKO Srl adopts a rigorous, science-based approach following the MARC methodology, ensuring a structured and measurable strategy aligned with the European Commission’s objectives.
