Arauco is a global company that develops sustainable wood-based solutions across forestry, pulp, panels, and bioenergy sectors. With operations in Latin America, Europe, and North America, and commercial presence worldwide, the company plays a key role in the bioeconomy and responsible land management.
Over the years, Arauco has launched several important environmental initiatives, including commitments to carbon neutrality, Net Zero climate targets, and responsible landscape management.

While these efforts are commendable and reflect a strong commitment, there is an opportunity to further enhance their impact by integrating them into a cohesive strategic framework. Strengthening this alignment would enable the company to more effectively address nature-related risks and fully leverage the potential of its ongoing initiatives across operations and the value chain.

To address these challenges, Etifor is supporting Arauco in developing a comprehensive and integrated Nature Positive strategy, aligned with international standards and best practices.
The project focuses on improving the integration of existing goals, enhancing environmental governance, setting clear priorities, and ensuring greater consistency and transparency in managing nature-related topics.
The ultimate goal is to provide Arauco with a solid strategic tool to support informed decision-making and meet the growing demands of environmental reporting and due diligence.

Etifor’s work is structured around three main areas:

• Gap analysis and alignment with standards
  We assess Arauco’s current environmental practices and benchmark them against key international frameworks and recommendations (TNFD, ESRS) to identify strengths and improvement areas, supported by peer benchmarking.
• Nature materiality screening
  We analyse Arauco’s value chain activities to screen for material impacts and dependencies on nature (e.g. land use, resource exploitation, pollution), helping to identify key environmental hotspots and risks that need to be addressed.
• Nature strategy review and update
  We support Arauco in reviewing and restructuring its nature strategy, improving its coherence, clarity, and level of integration. We provide practical recommendations for implementation and for communicating the strategy effectively to stakeholders and investors.
