that contribute to a nature-positive future
The ITALIAN BUSINESS @ BIODIVERSITY WORKING GROUP is an initiative born in 2023 that aims to create an Italian network of companies and financial institutions that want to contribute to a nature-positive future, pursuing the objectives of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and the Nature Restoration Law of the European Commission.
The Working Group, created in the context of the European Business & Nature Summit in Milan, is an initiative of Etifor, Forum per la Finanza Sostenibile (ItaSIF) and Regione Lombardia, co-organisers of the event in partnership with the European Commission.
The objectives
Drive financial and business activities
towards a nature-positive future, by leveraging leading international experiences in this field (Capitals Coalition, TNFD, SBTN, ISSB, etc.).
Develop expertise
within the Italian network of financial operators, companies, NGOs, research organisations and all stakeholders interested in biodiversity and nature protection issues.
Represent companies and the financial sector
in the promotion of activities for the protection and restoration of biodiversity in Italy and Europe.
Promoting partnerships
and collaborations between the network of protected areas that protect a wide variety of natural capital and ecosystem services and the national and international private sector that depends on them.

Working group governance
The B@B WG is founded by Etifor, Forum per la Finanza Sostenibile (ItaSIF) and Regione Lombardia and is governed by a mutual agreement between the parties, in compliance with the Commission’s EU B@B Platform. During the first year of activity, the B@B WG will organise a series of meetings and training activities on topics of interest. In addition, it will work to receive feedback and expressions of interest from stakeholders and formulate a governance proposal that can be inclusive, keeping the focus on the world of finance and business, and in particular towards those realities that can demonstrate substantial commitments consistent with international objectives.
The EU B@B PLATFORM
The Working Group was born as a spin-off of the EU Business @ Biodiversity Platform and has the function of creating a link between Italian companies and financial institutions with the European network. It therefore aims to contribute to the annual European Business & Nature Summit and other lobbying and information actions organised by the European platform by sharing good practices adopted in the Italian business and financial context.
The European Business & Nature Summit (EBNS) is an international event – organised by the European Commission – to involve organisations that seek to develop and explore sustainable business models also aimed at biodiversity conservation. The 2023 edition was held from 11 to 12 October in Milan, and was organised by the European Commission in cooperation with the Lombardy Region, Etifor and the Forum for Sustainable Finance. The Summit illustrated the challenges and opportunities marking the path towards the goals of the Kunming Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework: halting the loss of biodiversity and living in harmony with nature by 2050.
